Wormwood is a bitter medicinal herb valued for its tonic effect on the liver, gallbladder, and digestive system and its ability to kill worms. It improves digestion and nutrient absorption and can relieve bloating. Caution is advised when using it internally, and it should not be given to children or pregnant women. The highly bitter leaves can be chewed to stimulate the appetite and have been used to treat anorexia nervosa. Externally, it can be applied to bruises and bites or used as a warm compress for sprains and strained muscles.
